Five Gustavus Adolphus women’s hockey players have been named All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by a vote of the league’s coaches. Seniors Kelly Crandall (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Andrea Peterson (White Bear Lake, Minn.) were recognized, as were juniors Margaret Dorer (St. Paul, Minn./St. Anthony) and Molly Doyle (Eagan, Minn.) and sophomore Jenny Pusch (Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels). Peterson was also named MIAC Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive season.
In addition, junior Stefanie Ubl (Blaine, Minn.) and sophomores Jessica Doig (New Prague, Minn.) and Mari Gunderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) were Honorable Mention All-MIAC selections, first year Melissa Mackley (Burnsville, Minn.) was named to the MIAC All-Rookie Team and sophomore Christine Wicker (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) was named to the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Peterson, a four-time all-league selection and three-time All-American, leads the team in scoring with 37 points on 11 goals and 26 assists. Peterson leads Division III in scoring by a defender at 1.37 points per game and is 14th in Division III among all players. Peterson has 185 career points heading into the 2007 NCAA Tournament, ranking first in school and league history and third in Division III history in the category. Peterson’s 107 career assists are tied for second in Division III history, while her 23 power-play goals rank fourth all-time in Division III and second in school history behind current teammate Kelly Crandall (24).

Peterson also holds Gustavus’ single-season record for goals with 32 (2004-05). Peterson has recorded at least a point in all but four of Gustavus’ games this season and all but 14 of 114 games (87.7%) during her career entering the NCAA Tournament. Peterson is one of two Gusties to receive league MVP honors (Sarah Moe, 1999 & 2002) and the only MIAC women’s hockey player to have been named MIAC Player of the Year more than twice.

Crandall, an All-MIAC selection each of the past three years, ranks second on the team with 33 points on 17 goals and 16 assists. Crandall ranks tied for 26th in Division III in scoring at 1.22 points per game and among the top ten nationally in game-winning goals (fourth; 5), power-play goals (fifth; 8) and short-handed goals (tenth; 2). Crandall was twice named MIAC Player of the Week during the 2006-07 regular season (Dec. 11; March 5). She recorded her second career hat trick Dec. 8 in a 4-0 win over Saint Mary’s. Crandall ranks fourth in school history with 132 career points and is third all-time at Gustavus in assists with 79 while her 53 goals are tied for sixth all-time. Crandall is also Gustavus’ career leader in power-play goals with 24, a mark that ranks her tied third all-time in Division III history.

Doyle, also a three-time All-MIAC selection, returned to the ice following winter break after missing the first part of the year due to off-season knee surgery. Her impact on the team was felt immediately as she scored a hat trick Jan. 13 against Lake Forest in just her second game back. Doyle scored a point in 15 of 18 games down the stretch to head into the NCAA Tournament tied for fifth on the team with 27 points on a team-high 18 goals and nine assists. Doyle’s seven power-play goals rank tied for 11th in Division III, while her three game-winners rank tied for 24th. She would rank in the Top 20 in Division III in both points per game and goals per game, but has not played in enough games to qualify. Late in the season, Doyle became the eighth Gustavus women’s hockey player to eclipse 100 career points. Her 108 career points rank eighth all-time at Gustavus, while she also ranks third in goals (57) and tenth in assists (51).

Dorer, tabbed an All-MIAC for the second consecutive season, ranks third on the team with 32 points on nine goals and 23 assists. Dorer ranks third in Division III in points by a defender, averaging 1.23 points per game, and is tied for 23rd among all players, regardless of position. Seven of Dorer’s nine goals were scored on the power play. Her 23 assists rank second on the team behind Peterson and her 0.88 assists per game rank 12th in Division III. Dorer is tied for tenth place on the Gustavus career points list with 87 and her 62 career assists are sixth in school history.

Pusch is an All-MIAC selection in 2007 after taking home honorable mention honors in 2006. Pusch is sixth on the team in scoring with 26 points on 14 goals and 12 assists. Her 14 goals rank third on the team. She also has six power-play goals (21st in Division III) and three game-winners on the season. Pusch was named MIAC Player of the Week Jan. 29 after posting five goals in a weekend sweep of Bethel, including four in the Jan. 27 win to record her first collegiate hat trick.

Doig, named honorable mention All-MIAC, is seventh on the team in scoring with 25 points on 12 goals and 13 assists. Doig had a big weekend against St. Kate’s to close out the regular season, scoring four goals and an assist, helping to lead the Gusties to the sweep.

Ubl, a repeat honorable mention selection, sits eighth on the team with 23 poitns on 10 goals and 13 assists. Ubl has two power-play goals and two game-winning goals this season and ranks sixth in Division III in points by a defender at 1.00 per game.

Gunderson, an honorable mention selection this season after being a first-teamer and all-rookie selection in 2006, has 22 points on 11 goals and 11 assists. Gunderson posted one of four Gustavus hat tricks on the season with three goals in an 8-1 home win over Hamline in early December.

Mackley enters the NCAA Tournament tied for fourth in points with 27 on nine goals and 18 assists. She has two power-play goals and two game-winning goals on the season. She has scored in 17 of 27 games through the MIAC Playoffs, posting a season-high three points (1g, 2a) in January’s 4-2 win over UW-Stevens Point.

Wicker has skated in all 27 games for the Gusties, picking up 12 points on six goals and six assists. Wicker had a big weekend against the College of Saint Benedict Feb. 16-17 scoring three goals and an assist as Gustavus picked up the weekend sweep. All three goals of Wicker’s goals against the Blazers were on the power play.

Gustavus, now 25-2 overall, captured the MIAC women’s hockey playoff title last weekend and will host University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday at 2 p.m. at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter in a NCAA Quarterfinal game. The winner will advance to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Hockey Championship to be held Friday, March 16 at Stafford Ice Arena in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
