Four Women’s Cross Country Runners Named To MIAC Academic All-Conference Team

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2010 Fall Academic All-Conference team this week and four Gustavus cross country runners were named to the academic honor squad. That group included Danielle Burgmeier, Kate Eggers, Beth Hauer, and Laura Secor.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its 2010 Fall Academic All-Conference honorees on Tuesday, March 1, a list that included 26 Gustavus student-athletes.

Four of those 26 honorees were women’s cross country runners including Danielle Burgmeier (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.), Kate Eggers (So., Montevideo, Minn.), Beth Hauer (So., Little Falls, Minn.) and Laura Secor (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.). The Gustavus women’s cross country team finished fourth at the MIAC Championships and eighth at the NCAA Central Region Meet.

Kate Eggers led the Gusties with a seventh-place (22:56.2) finish at the MIAC Championships and placed a team-best 24th (22:58) at the NCAA Central Region Meet. The sophomore Spanish major has a grade point average of 3.59.

Hauer finished 13th (23:15.6) at the MIAC Championships and 28th at the NCAA Central Region Meet (23:06). Hauer is a sophomore music major with a grade point average of 3.92.

Danielle Burgmeier finished 33rd (24:20.8) at the MIAC Championships and 71st at the NCAA Central Region Meet (24:09.8). Burgmeier is a junior chemistry major with a grade point average of 3.63.

Laura Secor finished 50th (24:39.4) at the MIAC Championships and 100th at the NCAA Central Region Meet (24:39.3).  Secor is a senior majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology with a 3.987 grade point average.

The 2010 Academic All-Conference honorees included 305 student-athletes from the MIAC’s 13 member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, students must be a sophomore, junior, or senior with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Athletically, football, soccer, and volleyball athletes must compete in at least half of their team’s varsity regular season contests. Golfers must be a member of their competing team at the conference championships and cross country runners must finish in the top 50 at conference or be in the top seven of their team at the MIAC Championships.
