The Gustavus Adolphus women’s golf team shot a team score of 311 Saturday and finds itself in the lead after the first round of the 2006 UW-Eau Claire Fall Invitational at Mill Run Golf Course in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Host UW-Eau Claire is second with 328, followed by Wartburg (329), St. Thomas (331) and UW-Stevens Point (333) in the 20-team field.
The Gusties placed three individuals in the top five, led by sophomore Kimbra Kosak (Grand Rapids, Minn.), who is tied for first with a 76. Rachel Roberg (Jr., Rice Lake, Wis.) sits in fourth, one shot back with a 77, while first-year Kali Griggs (Burnsville, Minn./Visitation) is fifth after firing a first-round 78. Senior Breanne Staples (Windom, Minn.) rounded out the scoring for Gustavus on day one with an 80. Individual Lauren Runsvold (So., Fargo, N.D.) shot an 81 and is tied for 12th place.
The 311 team score posted by the Gusties is tied for the second lowest in school history, matching the 311 from the second round of last fall’s Midwest Classic, and bettered only by the 308 posted during last spring’s MWCGA Championships.
Second round is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Wild Ridge Golf Course.
