Women’s Swimming & Diving Drops Dual 164.5-133.5 To Carleton

The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team fell 164-134 to conference rival Carleton on Friday night in Northfield, Minn.

The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team fell 164-134 to conference rival Carleton on Friday night in Northfield, Minn.  The Gusties picked up four individual event wins, as Anika Erickson and Dajana Vidovic each recorded a pair of victories.  The Knights notched 10 event wins on their way to the dual victory.

Anika Erickson was the top breaststroke swimmer of the evening, winning the 100 with a time of 1:11.62 and the 200 with a time of 2:39.78.

Vidovic, last week’s recipient of the MIAC’s Swimmer of the Week honors, touched the wall first in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.39 and 100 free with a time of 55.25.

Carley Mosher went up against one of the top swimmers in the conference in Kale Zicafoose in the backstroke events, finishing runner-up in both the 100 (1:01.18) and 200 (2:14.39) races.

Second place finishers also included Sarah Hund in the 50 free (25.22), Steph Korba in the 200 butterfly (2:20.33), Abby Lyle in the 200 breaststroke (2:39.78), and Kelsey Lucia in the 100 free (55.91).

Laura Drake and Melissa Aune added a second and third place finish in the dual.  Drake placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.45 and third in the 200 IM, while Aune finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 11:14.87 and third in the 500 free.

Other top-three finishers included Haley Totzke in the three-meter diving and Michaela Holm in the 200 breaststroke.

The Gusties top relay teams added a pair of victories in the meet.  The 200 medley relay swam a 1:51.81 and the 200 free relay won with a time of 1:39.10.

The Gustavus swimming and diving team will next travel to Grinnell, Iowa on Jan. 21-22 to take part in the Grinnell Invite.
