Gustavus golfers Katie Schenfeld and Taylor Drenttel will take part in the 1st Annual Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship, will begin Tuesday, August 3 in Atlanta, Georgia. The tournament will consist of fifty-five (55) two-person teams including many of the top players in women’s collegiate golf. Each team will pair players from the same university in a 54-hole stroke play event.
Schenfeld, who will be a senior in the 2010-11 school year, is a native of Indianola, Iowa. She finished fifth individually at the 2010 NCAA Championships and earned First Team National Golf Coaches Association (NCGA) All-America honors. Drenttel, who will be a junior, is a native of Eagan, Minnesota. She finished 12th individually at the 201o NCAA Championships and earned Second Team NGCA All-American honors. Schenfeld and Drenttel sparked the Gusties to a second place team finish at the NCAA Division III Championships this past May.
The format of the Championship is Day 1 (Aug. 3): Alternate Shot; Day 2 (Aug. 4): Best Ball; and Day 3 (Aug. 5): Aggregate Score of the two players. Teams are comprised of players from all levels of collegiate golf including 42 from Division I programs, 4 Division II programs, 6 Division III programs and one NAIA program.
The Championship will be played at Achasta, which is located in Dahlonega, Georgia one hour north of Atlanta. The par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course is situated in a picturesque valley. This 18 hole, 6,995-yard design encourages walking, allowing you to enjoy the game in its purest form.
