The Gustavus women’s tennis team opened its spring season on the short end of a 7-2 result against NCAA Division II Brigham Young Univerity-Hawai’i Friday evening in Laie, Hawai’i.
The Gusties opened the dual down 3-0 following doubles action, including a close 8-6 loss by Darcy Haubrick (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) and Hannah Frericks (Jr., Sartell, Minn.) to BYU-H’s #3 doubles pair of Petra Teller and Aleen Taylor.
Haubrick rebounded in singles action to post a 6-4, 6-4 win over Taylor at #6 singles. The other victorious Gustie player was Jenni White (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) at #4 singles. White picked up a default win over Tetyana Bula.
The Gusties will open their home schedule Feb. 10 when they face University of Nebraska-Omaha at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter.
