Cole Carslon won both the 200 and 400 meter dash at the Saint John's Quad

The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field team compiled 160 points to take third place at the Saint John’s quadrangular held in Collegeville, Minn. on Saturday afternoon.  Cole Carlson was the top Gustavus performer with individual event wins in the 200 meter dash (22.97) and 400 meter dash (49.98).  The University of Minnesota-Duluth won the meet with 179.5 points, as Saint John’s finished second with 171.5, while Concordia placed fourth with 77.

Matt Dvorak had a good day in the sprints as well, winning the 55-meter dash (6.61) and taking second in the 200-meter dash (23.01).  Max Hanson and Jake Peymann registered Gustavus’s other individual event wins.  Hanson took first place in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:31.16, as Peymann won the high jump with a leap of 6’ 0.75″.  The Gustavus 1600 relay team of Carlson, Hanson, Colby Citrowske, and Matt Leeb took first place with a time of 3:23.92.

Other top performers in the track events included John Kennedy, Mark Bartley, Alex Thornton, Nick Ross, and Christian Raether.  Kennedy took second in the 1000-meter run (2:34.05), Bartley placed third in the 3000-meter run (9:19.49), Thornton finished fourth in the 3000-meter run, Ross took fourth in the 5000-meter run, and Raether placed fourth in the 800-meter run.

Brian Anderson and Josh Owens were the other top Gustavus finishers in the field events.  Anderson placed second in the weight throw (50’ 7.50”) and third in the shot put (42’ 8.75”).  Owens finished third in the pole vault (140’ 0.75”).

The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field team will travel to St. Paul to compete at Macalester College on Friday, Feb. 26, at 5:00 pm.
