The Gustavus men’s soccer team recorded a convincing 3-0 over Augsburg on a beautiful fall afternoon in St. Peter. The Gusties, who outshot the Auggies 19-3, improved to 9-2-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the MIAC. Bobby Kroog scored a goal in each half to lead the Gusties.
Senior central defender Jordan Iblings scored the first goal of the game on a free kick early in the first half. Iblings drove a ball high into the air that fooled the Augsburg keeper Evan Fuhs and found its way into the net at the 16:38 mark.
Just over a minute later, senior midfielder Bobby Kroog extended the Gustavus lead to 2-0 when he headed in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Jeffrey Johnson past Fuhs at the 17:44 mark. The first half ended with the Gusties holding a 2-0 lead. Gustavus outshot Augsburg 10-3 in the first half.
The Gusties, who continued to control play in the second half, posted their third goal of the game at the 77:31 mark. Senior midfielder Chris Pinahs outran an Augsburg defender down the right side and sent a cross that Bobby Kroog ran onto at the far post and drove into an open net. Gustavus outshot the Auggies 9-0 in the second half.
Gustavus goalkeeper Tyler Garry made two saves and posted his fourth shutout of the season. Augsburg goalkeeper Evan Fuhs made seven saves.
The Gusties will host Hamline on Friday afternoon in another key MIAC matchup. The game will start at 3:30 pm.
