The Gustavus men’s tennis team wrapped up a very successful Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional by claiming both singles and doubles titles on Sunday afternoon. Loren Collins (#1 seed) won the singles title by beating teammate Adam Morgan (#2 seed) 7-5, 6-1. In the doubles final, Gustavus’ Adam Morgan and Brett Morse-Karzen (#1 seed) knocked off teammates Andy Bryan and Roy Bryan, the #3 seeds, 8-5. Collins, the singles champion and Morgan and Morse-Karzen, the doubles champions, receive ITA All-America honors by virtue of winning regional titles and advance to play in the ITA Small College Championships in Fort Myers, Florida on October 13 through 16.

In the singles semifinals earlier in the day, Loren Collins defeated teammate Andy Bryan (#9 seed) 6-1, 6-0, while Adam Morgan defeated Carthage’s Miguel Yunes (#2 seed) 6-1, 6-4. Bryan made a good run during the tournament as he defeated #5 seed Aaron Sunday of St. Norbert in the fourth round and #4 Brad Livingston of Carthage in the quarterfinals to set up the meeting with Collins. For Collins, this was his second Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championship in three years. He won the title in 2003, but was upset in the final by teammate Ben Lundell last year.

In the doubles semifinals, Morgan and Morse-Karzen (#1 seed) defeated unseeded teammates Mike Burdakin and Charlie Paukert 8-2, while the Bryans (#3 seed) defeated Miguel Yunes and Brad Livingston (#2 seed) 8-3 in a slight upset. This was the third consecutive Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championship for Morgan and Morse-Karzen.

The ITA Midwest Regional consisted of 92 players from 20 institutions in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. This was the 21st consecutive year that Gustavus has hosted the Midwest Regional.
