LE SUEUR, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team had three teams competing at the Bobby Krig Invite over the weekend, with the Gustavus A team dropping two spots in round two to finish fourth at 297-308-605 (+41). The Gusties B team moved up one for seventh (309-307-616), and the third and final team held at 15th with a mark of 321-329-650. UW-Eau Claire placed first at 296-297-593 (+29).

The Gusties had two golfers finish in the top-eight, as Teddy Kaste (So., Apple Valley) tied for sixth to lead team one, and Pelayo Perez (Fy., Sotogrande, Spain) moved up five spots to tie for eighth. Kaste carded a birdie and seven bogies in round two, finishing the weekend eight-over with a mark of 71-78-149. Perez finished nine-over at 75-75-150, with two bogies and a birdie in round two.

Chris Gutuza (Fy., Johannesburg, South Africa) moved up five spots on day two, carding five birdies for an eventual mark of 76-75-151 to tie for 14th, which he shared with teammate Jack Reinardy (So., Andover), who finished the weekend 73-78-151. Khrystjan Petersen (Jr., Fairbault) finished one stroke behind Gutuza and Reinardy at 78-74-152, moving up 15 places thanks to his round two performance to tie for 20th.

“Our expectations coming to our home golf course were high,” said Head Coach Scott Moe. “I believe we thought a little more about the end result before making sure we took care of the task at hand. We left some shots out there today because of mental miss cues. We need to realize that all shots do not need to look good, we just need to be able to hit the shots that will get the ball close to the hole. It was nice to see Teddy and Pelayo receive top-10 honors. We should have some good weather to prepare for our final event hosted by Saint Johns.”

The Gusties compete at the Saint John’s Invite next Saturday and Sunday in Sauk Centre and Monticello, Minn.
