Track & Field Makes Final Push at Wartburg Qualifier

Gustavus track & field sent a small team of athletes to the Wartburg Qualifer Saturday for one last push to qualify for the NCAA National Indoors next weekend.

WAVERLY, Iowa — Gustavus track & field sent a small team of athletes to the Wartburg Qualifer Saturday for one last push to qualify for the NCAA National Indoors next weekend. The Gusties competed in eight events with the hopes of posting one of the top-20 finishes in the nation in order to qualify for nationals.

In the field, Madi Kes (Jr., Jordan) placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.61 meters, while Megan Geraets (So., Mankato) finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.10 meters.

Geraets also led the Gusties on the track, posting an indoor personal best in the women’s 400-meter with a time of 58.73, good for fourth overall. Kate Carlson (So., Inver Grove Heights) competed in both the 60-meter and the 200, finishing with a time of 7.88 in the 60 and a time of 25.91 in the 200. Wyatt Quiring (Sr., Fairmont) ran both the 200-meter and 400-meter for the Gusties, finishing in 22.52 for an indoor personal best. Quiring finished 10th in the 400 with a time of 50.41. Tucker Wallin (Sr., Red Wing) rounded out the Gusties’ competition with a 4:29.12 finish in the mile.

The full field for NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be announced Sunday night at 6 p.m.
