Track & Field Garners USTFCCCA Academic Awards

The Gustavus track & field teams recently earned multiple honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the 2022 outdoor season. Seven Gusties received All-Academic Athlete recognition, while both the men’s and women’s squads were named All-Academic Teams. The Gustie men and women earned All-Academic Team recognition with a 3.22 and 3.51 team GPA, respectively.

Nelson Wins National Championship in 100H, Gustie Women Finish 10th Overall

The Gustavus track & field team concluded their 2022-23 season on the final day of the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships with a series of impressive performances. Birgen Nelson closed out her Gustavus track & field career as the most decorated track athlete in program history, winning the 100-hurdles and taking second in the 400-hurdles.

Nelson and Geraets to Open Track & Field Championships Thursday

The Gustavus track & field team is set to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by St. John Fisher University and Visit Rochester at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, N.Y. beginning Thursday. Birgen Nelson and Megan Geraets will open competition for the team Thursday. 

Gusties Break Records on Day One of MIAC Outdoor Championships

The Gustavus track & field team had a strong start to the MIAC Outdoor Championships, as Annika Poe and Birgen Nelson both broke MIAC records in their events. The Gustie women sit in third after day one with 35 points while the men are in sixth with 24.

Nelson Shatters NCAA Record, Gusties Make Most of Maverick Open

The Gustavus track & field team competed at the MSU-Mankato Maverick Open Wednesday, and compiled a handful of record performances.

Gustie Impress at Lee Krough Invitational

The Gustavus track & field teams hosted the annual Lee Krough Invitational Sunday, and picked up a handful of impressive performances across the board. 12 different Gustie performances earned a spot in the top-five conference list, while Madi Kes made a dent in the national standings. Gustavus picked up wins in 15 running events and nine field events. 

Poe Named MIAC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Annika Poe (Sr., Big Lake) won the shot put at the Bethel Invitational over the weekend with a throw of 13.65 meters (44' 9.5"), a whole two meters better than the rest of the field. Poe's mark is the best in the conference this season and currently ranks 12th in NCAA Division III. For her performance, Poe was named MIAC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Nelson Named MIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Birgen Nelson won the 100-meter hurdles at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. on 4/8. Racing against a field of Division I athletes, Nelson won with a time of 13.88, which is currently the fastest in NCAA Division III this season. Nelson competed at Colorado College on 4/4 as well, winning the 100-hurdles in 14.07. Nelson also won the 100-meter in 12.19, which currently ranks first in the MIAC. Nelson finished the meet as a member the winning 4x100 relay team with a time of 48.92, which ranks second in the MIAC.

Nelson Named USTFCCCA North Region Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year

Birgen Nelson added to her list of accomplishments Wednesday, as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2022-23 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year. Nelson was named the Women's Track Athlete of the Year for the North Region after a record-setting indoor season.

Track & Field Makes Final Push at Wartburg Qualifier

Gustavus track & field sent a small team of athletes to the Wartburg Qualifer Saturday for one last push to qualify for the NCAA National Indoors next weekend.
