MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Gustavus women’s golf team opened the spring season Sunday at the Washington University-St. Louis Spring Invitational. The Gusties carded a 311 (+31) in the first round and sit in seventh place out of 14 teams. The second and final round begins Monday morning at The Quarry at Crystal Springs Golf Club.

Erin Ericson (Sr., Onalaska, Wis.), coming off a MIAC individual runner-up finish in October, leads the Gusties after round one with a score of 74 (+4) and is tied for ninth place. Emily Kratz (Sr., Edina) posted a 78 and is tied for 24th place. Annika Reierson (So., Delano), No. 5 in the lineup, carded a 79 and is tied for 30th. Laurel Ward (Jr., Bozeman, Mont.) shot an 80 and is tied for 38th and Sydney Regalado (Sr., Rosemount) is tied for 62nd after finishing with an 84.

“For our first competitive round since October, I felt pretty good most of the day,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “We got some rust off on the short game, but I felt good about our ball striking. Always tough when you have a shotgun start and finish in the middle of the golf course and everybody’s finishing at the same time. Pleased with our grind today and looking forward to getting another crack at it tomorrow. Good start for Erin posting a 74. We need to avoid the big holes and have our misses avoid the trouble.”

Illinois Wesleyan leads the field with a score of 290. Macy Ludwig of Illinois Wesleyan is at the top of the leaderboard with a 66.
