STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s and men’s swim and dive teams had winning finishes in day two of the Point Invite, taking. The Gustie women recorded a score of 1554 to UWSP’s 1251 while the Gustie men won over the 8th regionally ranked Pointers by a margin of 1353.5-1264.5.

“This was exactly what the teams needed with the conference meet between less than a month away,” said Head Coach Jon Carlson. “It was good to get in a prelim final meet over multiple days and get a sense of what it’s going to be like at our conference championships.”

The Gustavus women’s team continued to shine in relay events with Marit Isaacson, Leah Soukup, Ellen Hofstede, and Lucy Peterson touching the wall in the 200 Medley Relay at 1:52.72. Additionally, Isaacson, Abby Yartz, Peterson, and Hofstede won the 400 Free (3:40.45).

Junior Hofstede kept the Gusties on top winning the 100 Fly (1:00.52) and the 50 Free (24.62).

Sophomore Soukup placed second in the 400 IM (5:01.85) and first-year Isaacson also took second in the 200 Free (2:00.80). Mikayla Witte rounded out the Gustie squad posting a 2:13.76 for runner up in 200 Backstroke.

Senior Emily An took first place in 3 meter diving with a finals score of 372.25.

On the men’s side, Sophomore Peyton Richardson had a top finish in the 400 IM with a time of 4:17.86 and a second place finish in the 200 Backstroke (2:00.03).

Juniors Dane Hudson and Erik Small had strong showings with Hudson tying against a Pointer swimmer for first place in the 100 Fly (52.22) and Small tacking on a second place finish in the 200 Free (1:49.33).

The Gustie men had a strong finish on the day winning the 400 Free Relay; Hudson, Small, Kieran Ripken, and Andrew Becker touched the wall at 3:12.12.

Gustavus is next in action when they host Saint John’s and Saint Benedict on Jan. 29th.
