SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team hosted the Saint Benedict Bennies for a Saturday night contest where the Gusties took a straight set win with scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-13. With the victory, the team moves to 22-5 overall and 7-1 in the MIAC.
Both teams entered the first set tied 7-7, a pair of kills from Kate Holtan (Sr., Rochester) and Marlee Turn (So., Kennedy) elevated Gustavus to a 17-13 lead. An 8-4 run from the Black and Gold would prove solid for a 25-17 opening set while Courtney Peterson (Jr., Jamestown, N.D.) hit .400 in the process.
The Gusties ignited in set two, with an 11-5 early lead and a 14-6 run that the Bennies couldn’t respond to. Additionally, Sarah Elliott (Jr., Lombard, Ill.) and Holtan each tacked on five kills a piece.
Running away with a weekend conference sweep, Gustavus dominated in an 8-2 advantage before racking up two four-point runs for a 25-13 closer in the conference match.
Kasie Tweet (So., Adrian) put up 37 assists, while Holtan recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, and Hailey Embacher (Sr., Mankato) notched 13 digs. Turn finished the night with 12 kills and nine digs.
The Gusties are back in action when they host St. Scholastica in their final home match of the regular season next Friday at 7:00.
