Holtan Selected CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team

Gustavus senior Kate Holtan (Rochester) on Wednesday was selected to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Volleyball Team. Holtan is one of six student-athletes on the Second Team, with 21 student-athletes from across the country comprising First, Second, and Third Teams. Academic All-America Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Volleyball Wins in Four Sets Against Hamline

The Gustavus volleyball team got back on track Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over Hamline at Gus Young Court. The Gusties won by set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 17-25, and 25-21, improving to 2-1 overall.

Volleyball Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker to Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus volleyball team was able to force a fifth set Saturday in its home opener, but lost in the tiebreaker to Saint Mary’s to drop to 1-1 overall. The Gusties lost by scores of 25-18, 17-25, 25-27, 25-15, 13-15.  

Kate Holtan Named MIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

Kate Holtan (Sr., Rochester) picked up right where she left off from the last time Gustavus played a volleyball match in 2019. On Sunday in the Gusties' season-opening match at Concordia, Holtan led the team with 18 kills in a straight-set victory.

Kate Holtan Named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its annual All-America Teams Tuesday with Kate Holtan (Jr., Rochester) receiving Honorable Mention honors for Gustavus.

Holtan Named AVCA All-Central Region

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Division III Regional Awards on Thursday and Kate Holtan (Jr., Rochester) was named to the All-Central Region Team for the third consecutive season. Of the 14-member team, Holtan leads the group making her third appearance.

Holtan, Veldman Named October Student-Athletes of the Month

Volleyball outside hitter Kate Holtan (Jr., Rochester) and football quarterback Michael Veldman (Sr., Becker) have been named Gustavus Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Month, which is voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department and presented by Thrivent Financial.

Embacher and Holtan Named MIAC All-Conference

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) came out with its annual volleyball awards Wednesday, and juniors Hailey Embacher (Jr., Mankato) and Kate Holtan (Jr., Rochester) were named MIAC all-conference. It is Holtan's third consecutive all-conference honor while Embacher is making her first appearance.

Volleyball Travels to Augsburg for MIAC Semifinal Tuesday

The Gustavus volleyball team begins its postseason Tuesday in the MIAC quarterfinals against Augsburg as they'll travel to Minneapolis for a 7 p.m. contest.
