SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus volleyball team hosted Concordia for a Friday night conference match. The Gusties won in straight sets with scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-11. With the win, the Gusties improve to 21-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference.

The Gusties climbed to an opening 11-6 lead before going on an 8-3 run, for a 25-18 first set. Kate Holtan (Sr., Rochester) set the tone with an impressive 12 kill performance while Kasie Tweet (So., Adrian) racked up 18 assists.

Set two was all Black and Gold as Gustavus jumped out to an 18-6 rush and closed it out in a 25-14 middle frame.

Concordia attempted to cut into the deficit in the final set, going point for point until the Gusties ran away with a 20-7 run, hitting .515 in the process. Sarah Elliott (Jr., Lombard, Ill.) silenced the Cobbers with two blocks in the closer.

Holtan’s 23 kills against in the Cobbers is her newest three-set career high. Hailey Embacher (Sr., Mankato) and Marlee Turn (So., Kennedy) each had 13 digs, while Tweet tacked on 45 assists.

Gustavus has a quick turn around and will host Saint Benedict at 7:00 on Saturday.
