SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s tennis team kicked off its fall season by hosting a five-team invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Swanson Tennis Center and Brown Outdoor Courts. The singles and doubles draws included Gustavus, U Mary, Sioux Falls, Minnesota State-Mankato, and Southwest Minnesota State.

In singles play, Simona Potockova (Sr., Nova’ Dubnica, Slovakia) made it to the finals of the A draw, but came up short in three sets. She won her first and second round matches in straight sets. Anna Stutz (Sr., Dellwood) took fifth place in the A draw. In the B draw, Sydney Douglas (Sr., North Mankato) defeated teammate Yuki Oda (Jr., Kawasaki, Japan) 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 in the first-place match. Alli Laux (So., Onalaska, Wis.) highlighted the C draw for the Gusties by taking third place with a straight set win. In the D draw, it was an all-Gustavus final as Halle Rosentreter (Fy., Wilmot, Wis.) defeated Hayley Trebil (Sr., Edina) 6-2, 6-4. Rachel Lindrud (Sr., North Oaks) made it to the finals of the E draw but lost in straight sets. The F draw also was all Gustavus as Megan Karrow (Sr., Woodbury) beat Brooke Haddorff (Fy., Eagan) in three sets. In the G draw, Emily Carlson (So., Maple Grove) beat Mary Enright (So., Vadnais Heights) in three sets in yet another Gustie-vs.-Gustie first-place match. And the H draw was won by Sara Borchard (Fy., Inver Grove Heights) in straight sets.

In doubles action, Oda and Potockova won their first two matches before falling in the first-place match 8-5. Douglas and Emily Norman (Jr., Rochester) took fifth in the A draw with a close 8-7 victory. Rosentreter and Renata Hernandez (Jr., Saint James) also made it to the final of the B draw but lost 8-4. The C draw was all Gustavus as Haddorff and Lili Elofson (Jr., Saint Peter) beat Karrow and Josie Carlson (Sr., Saint Peter) 8-6.

The Gusties next compete at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Friday through next Monday at UW-Whitewater.
