The Gusties started the first set with a 3-2 lead but four consecutive Ole points gave the home team the lead and it never trailed the rest of the way. The Gusties were able to tie the score three times and were within one point late at 24-23, but the Oles were able to close out the opening frame.

St. Olaf jumped out to a 6-2 advantage in the second set and created some separation midway through at 16-10 before the Gusties rallied with a 12-7 run, cutting the deficit to one at 23-22.
