Hanson Named MIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week

Jack Hanson (So., Minnetonka) went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a pair of runs scored in the Gustavus baseball team's 13-2 victory over Marian last Thursday. The sophomore first baseman tallied two singles, a double, and a walk in the game. For his performance, Hanson has been named MIAC Hitter of the Week. 

MIAC Cancels Spring Sports Season

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Presidents' Council has voted to cancel the 2020 conference regular season and postseason championships for spring-sports through the remainder of the academic year, effective immediately. The decision was based on the ongoing impact of the coronavirus, following the lead of the NCAA canceling spring-sport championships and many other conferences canceling their spring seasons.

Baseball Opens Season with Win in Tucson

The Gustavus baseball team opened its season Thursday night with a 13-2 victory over Marian at the Tucson Invite. With the win the Gusties move to 1-0 overall while Marian falls to 3-5.

NCAA Cancels Winter and Spring Championships

Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat

Baseball 2020 Season Preview

The defending MIAC regular season champion Gustavus baseball team will begin its 2020 season Thursday when it begins play at the Tucson Invite. The Gusties finished 2019 25-13 overall and 14-6 in the MIAC, but lost a strong class of seven seniors to graduation.

Women’s Hockey Falls 4-1 at UW-River Falls in NCAA Opening Round

An early goal gave the Gustavus women’s hockey team the first lead of Wednesday’s NCAA opening round game, but UW-River Falls answered midway through the first to tie the score and tallied three unanswered goals in the third period to secure the win.

Women’s Hockey Faces Familiar Foe to Open NCAA Tourney

The stage is set and the opponent is a familiar foe. The No. 4-ranked Gustavus women’s hockey team opens the NCAA Championships at 7 p.m. Wednesday at No. 5-ranked UW-River Falls. The Gusties (22-3-2) and Falcons (21-5-2) will square off in the national tournament for the seventh time in program history.

Anderson Named Player of Year, LeNeave Joins on All-Conference Team

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its men’s hockey postseason awards Tuesday and forward Caleb Anderson (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) was named MIAC Co-Player of the Year, while defenseman Will LeNeave (Jr., Medina) joined Anderson on the All-Conference team.

Women’s Hockey Boasts Four on All-MIAC Team, Carroll Named Coach of the Year

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released its women’s hockey postseason awards Monday and Gustavus received a number of honors.

Four Gusties Earn All-Region, Qualify for NCAA Indoor Championships

The Gustavus men's and women's track and field teams will each send two participants to the NCAA Track and Field Championships. The men's team will send Steven Orzolek (So., Darwin) (shot put) and Taylor Rooney (Jr., Andover) (60m hurdles) while the women will send Birgen Nelson (Fy., Edina) (60m hurdles) and Tierney Winter (Sr., Waterville) (mile). The same four athletes were also named All-Region for their performances during the 2020 indoor season.
