MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Gustavus gymnastics team Friday night competed at the Harley Meet hosted by UW-Whitewater in Milwaukee, finishing third of three teams with a score of 179.150. UW-Whitewater won the event with a 188.925, while UW-Oshkosh followed closely behind with a 187.825.
“Beam was the best it’s ben all year,” said Head Coach Aryn DeGrood. “They went out and did what they are capable of and what they do in practice. Annie’s beam has been solid all year and it capped off a great rotation for us. To be the second highest beam score in school history is incredible as that record has stood for a long time and it’s exciting to be inching toward it!”
Gustavus scored 45.475 on vault, 45.825 on beam, and 45.600 on floor, but struggled on the bars with a 42.250.
Annie Corbett (Fy., Brookfield, Wis.) had a breakout performance in the beam, finishing second with a score of 9.725, which is the second highest score in program history. The 45.825 on beam was a season high, as Ashley Goeltl (Fy., White Bear Lake) also performed well, with a career high score of 9.300. Corbett also led the Gustavus on the vault and floor with scores of 9.475 and 9.325, respectively, and added a bars score of 8.775 to finish second in the all-around competition with a 37.300. Brooke Merila (So., St. Michael) also had a solid day, scoring a 9.275 on the vault, and a 9.300 on the floor.
“We fought hard on everything and battled back from weird things that happened and made the most out of some difficult situations. Now we need to regroup and refocus on the task at hand and prepare for a double meet next week.
The Gusties will next be in action Thursday when they travel to UW-Stout for a 6 p.m. contest, before competing at Lindenwood at 2 p.m. on the following Sunday.

Still keeping up with the meets. Sounds like it’s coming together, but at different meets. It just needs to unify in one meet or more. Good luck this week and your meets.
