MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team held off a late St. Thomas push on Friday night to take home a 3-2 victory. With the win the Gusties improve to 8-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the MIAC while the Tommies fall to 8-7-2 overall and 5-4-0 in the conference.

“I thought it was a tale of two halves.” Head Coach Brett Petersen said. “We started really well the first half of the game and then survived the second half push from St Thomas. Robbie Goor was terrific in goal and it was great to see Dylan Gast score his first college goal.”

The Gusties came out strong outshooting the Tommies 10-3 in the first. Tyler Ebner (So., La Crosse, Wis.) was able to strike first with a goal at the end of the first period assisted by Mason Etter (Jr., Grafton, Wis.) and  Tyler Rock (Jr., Savage)

Play continued to pick up in the second period with  Dylan Gast (So., Dellwood) snagging his first collegiate goal with assists from Kegan Couture (Sr., Pequot Lakes) and Dan Sandvig (So., Savage). With three minutes remaining in the period, Ebner would score his second of the night in what would be the eventual game-winning goal, unassisted.

The Tommies were able to lessen the deficit with a goal late in the second period and one early in the third, but a rock solid defensive line from the Gusties would hold the game at the 3-2 final.

Robbie Goor (Jr., Anoka) got the victory in net making 28 saves while allowing two goals.

Gustavus will be back in action tomorrow night when they host the Tommies for a 7:05 contest.
