ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus gymnastics team Friday scored a season high 180.650, dropping a WIAC dual with Hamline who totaled 185.450.

“We hit the 180 mark we’ve been chasing and it’s an important one for our team and Division III gymnastics in general,” said Head Coach Aryn DeGrood. “Three-fourth’s of the meet was great for us as we had season-highs on vault and floor. Bars scoring was tight, but we caught the most major releases I’ve seen since I’ve been involved in the program which is huge. Annie had another stellar night with career highs in all events but bars. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t our day on beams and Hamline had a wonderful day.”

The Gusties scored 46.625 on vault and 44.050 on bars, while notching 43.575 on beam and 46.400 on the floor.

Annie Corbett (Fy., Brookfield, Wis.) won the uneven bars with a 9.375, while tying for first in the vault with a 9.500. Corbett also winning the all-around, taking second on the beam with a 9.600 and third on the floor with a 9.375 to total a 37.850. Brooke Merila (So., St. Michael) took third on the vault with a 9.350, while Emma Esteb (Fy., Woodbury) took fourth in the vault and fifth on the floor with scores of 9.325 and 9.350, respectively.

“The important piece now is we know this team can put it behind us and use it as fuel to grow and improve,” said DeGrood. “I was proud of the fight I saw on all of our events. This was no where near our best and it’s exciting to be seeing results knowing that we are continuing to climb.”

Gustavus is next in action next Friday at the Gershon Invitational in La Crosse.

Even though you suffered a loss, it sounds like some goals were reached. Now you need to get the sticky feet on beam.😊
