Women’s Basketball Looks to Bounce Back Wednesday at Concordia Posted on January 14th, 2020 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team will look to get back on track Wednesday when they travel to Concordia for a 7:15 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter 11-2 overall and 7-1 in the MIAC while the Cobbers are 5-8 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Gustavus Game Notes

The Series: Wednesday’s contest marks the 82nd all-time meeting between the the two programs with Gustavus currently holding a 55-26 advantage. The Gusties have taken the last seven contest, with the Cobbers last win coming on Feb. 11, 2015.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus enters the contest after suffering its first conference loss of the season Saturday at Bethel 74-58. After the Gusties shot at least 25 percent from behind the arc in eight of the first 10 contests of the season, the Gusties have fallen below that mark in the past three games. Through 13 games, Gustavus is second in the MIAC in scoring per game with an average of 73.3 points, while their mark of 56.1 points allowed is the third best in the league. Caitlin Rorman leads the Gusties offensively, averaging 15.8 points per game and grabbing 6.7 rebounds, while Ava Gonsorowski scores 13.9 points and dishes out 3.5 assists.

Scouting the Cobbers: Concordia is most recently coming off an 84-68 loss to St. Catherine on Saturday. After losing four of their first five contests, the Cobbers have seen more consistency of late, going 4-4 over the last eight contests. Through 13 games, Mary Sem leads the offense, averaging 14.8 points per game to go along with 4.2 rebounds. Autumn Thompson and Emily Beseman also both average double figures, with marks of 12.2 and 11.6 points per game, respectively. Both Thompson and Beseman have been strong from behind the arc, making at least two three-pointers a game each, and shoooting 36 percent from downtown.
