SAINT PETER, Minn – The Gustavus men’s basketball team travels to Moorhead, Minn. on Wednesday looking to take down Concordia for the second time this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. The Gusties enter 5-9 overall and 5-4 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers are 2-10 overall and 0-8 in the conference.
THE SERIES: Wednesday’s game marks the 185th meeting between Gustavus and Concordia on the hardwood with the Gusties leading the all-time series 118-66. Gustavus has had the upper hand lately, winning the last five matchups, including earlier this season, with a 76-59 win on Dec. 14. The Cobbers last victory in the series came in Moorhead on Jan. 25, 2017, winning 75-63.
SCOUTING THE GUSTIES: Gustavus is coming off a close loss to Bethel Saturday, falling by four points in the final minutes. As a group, the Gusties continue to lead the conference in assists and blocks per game with 17.2 and 4.6, respectively. Kaleb Feahn leads the team in points per game, with 15.2 off the bench. Logan Rezac has a team high 6.2 rebounds to go along with a solid 13.9 points per game. Isaac Douglas also puts up double digits, with 10.2 points per game. Jake Guse remains atop the league with 2.3 blocks per game.
SCOUTING THE COBBERS: Concordia is seeking their first conference win Wednesday. Their two wins this season came against UW-Stout and St. Scholastica. The Cobbers give up 76.9 points while averaging 63.4 points themselves. Tommy Schyma leads the team with 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Next is Bryden Urie who averages 11.1 points and a team high 2.4 assists per game. John Reiten has had a strong season in the post, averaging 8.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Concordia is fourth in the conference with a 38.4 three-point field goal percentage.
