Women’s Basketball Hosts UW-River Falls Monday

The No. 21 Gustavus women’s basketball team will play host to UW-River Falls Monday night at 7 p.m. in its final non-conference game of the regular season. The Gusties enter 8-1 overall while the Falcons come in at 4-5.

The Series: Monday’s contest marks the ninth all-time meeting between the Gusties and Falcons with Gustavus holding a 5-3 advantage. The teams met last season on Nov. 9 with River Falls taking a 73-67 victory.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus comes into the contest most recently defeating Concordia 88-57 on Dec. 14. Through nine games the Gusties average 74.0 points per contest while allowing just 52.0, with their field goal percentage of 47.0 percent is the eighth best mark in the nation. Caitlin Rorman and Ava Gonsorowski have led the charge offensively, averaging 15.8 and 13.6 points per game, respectively, with Rorman’s field goal percentage of 64.8 being the ninth highest in the NCAA. Gonsorowski has been strong from beyond the arc, shooting 52.2 percent and making a team-most 12 shots from downtown.

Scouting the Falcons: River Falls comes into the contest most recently falling to Carleton 61-58 on Dec. 14. Through nine games, the Falcons average 69.7 points per contest this season, while allowing 69.1. They’re led offensively by Jenna Zeman and Brianna Koop who average 14.1 and 13.9 points, respectively, with Zeman notching a team-best 3.6 assists. Sydney Hein has also been strong, averaging 10.6 points, to go along with 17 total steals.
