Women’s Basketball Travels to California for Pair of Contests Posted on November 28th, 2019 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team will head to California this weekend for a pair of contests in Claremont. The Gusties (3-0) will take on Pomona-Pitzer (1-3) on Friday at 6:30 before taking on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (3-0) at 6:30 on Saturday.

Gustavus Game Notes

The Series’: Friday’s contest between Gustavus and Pomona-Pitzer will be the first contest between the two teams. Saturday’s matchup with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will be the second matchup between the Gusties and Athenas, with CMS taking the first contest between the teams in 1994 by a score of 63-57.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is most recently coming off an 85-55 win over Macalester Saturday. Through three contest the Gusties average 87.7 points per game and allow just 44.7. Caitlin Rorman (Fy., Blue Earth) has been the top producer for the Gusties, averaging 17.7 points per contest on 71.0 percent shooting, while also grabbing 8.7 rebounds. Marisa Gustafson (Jr., Mahtomedi) has shot it well early for the Black and Gold averaging 11.0 points on 13-of-20 shooting including 5-for-8 from three points range, while Ava Gonsorowski (Jr., Esko) average 10.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

Scouting the Sagehens: Pomona-Pitzer is most recently coming off a 66-61 win over Stevens on Sunday. The Sagehens average 59.3 points per game and allow 75.0 through four contests. Carly Leon is the teams leading scorer, averaging 13.3 points per game making an average of 2.2 three point shots per game. Emily Church and Renae Tamura both average 9.5 points, with Tamura also grabbing 5.0 rebounds and dishing out 2.0 assists.

Scouting the Athenas: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is most recently coming off a 66-47 win Tuesday over Willamette. The Athenas score 63.7 points per contest and allow 53.3 points through its first three matchups. Lindsey Cleary and Kate Parrish have been the teams top playmakers early on, with Cleary averaging 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, while Parrish is at 10.0 points, 7.7 boards, and 2.3 blocks. Maezelle Millan has been strong in the back court, scoring 9.7 points and handing out 3.7 assists per contest.
