SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team shut out No. 7-ranked UW-Eau Claire 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The Gusties improve to 3-0 overall while the Blugolds drop to 3-1.

“I was really proud of how we gutted it out in the third period and finished our first weekend series of the season,” Head Coach Mike Carroll said. “We grew up a lot today, had a freshman score a nice goal, all in all it was a really good team effort.”

Hailey Holland (Fy., Aberdeen, S.D.) scored her first collegiate goal at the 13:19 mark of the first period and that stood as the only score of the game.

The Gusties outshot the Blugolds 23-19. Both teams were unsuccessful on the power play as the Gusties had three skater advantages and Eau Clarie had two.

Katie McCoy (Fy., Grafton, Wis.) earned the shutout victory after making 19 saves in goal.

“Our goalie played really well,” Carroll said. “Cool, calm, and collected back there when she had to be and made some big saves. There were times where we lost our composure in the D zone but the one good thing about it was we kept them on the perimeter and found a way to get it out.”

Gustavus enters the conference season with a home-home series against St. Catherine next weekend.
