Men’s Soccer Squares Off with Hamline Tuesday Posted on October 29th, 2019 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s soccer team will travel to Hamline Tuesday to take on the Pipers in a 3:30 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter 13-3 overall and 7-1 in the MIAC while the Pipers are 3-10-1 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

The Series: Tuesday’s contest marks the 66th all-time meeting between the two teams with the Gusties leading 58-3-4. The two teams met last year on Oct. 23 and the Gusties put 15 shots on net to just one for the Pipers, but Hamline’s one shot found the net as they took a 1-0 victory.

Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus comes into the contest most recently defeating Concordia Saturday 4-0. Through 16 games Cole Schwartz leads the Gusties and the conference with 43 points on 19 goals and five assists with the 19 goals being the fourth most in Division III. Raphael Cattelin and Matt Gibbons have been solid supplements to the attack with Cattelin notching 34 points (11g, 12a) and Gibbons, who has played just 12 games, totaling 23 (6g, 11a). Wesley Sanders has started every game in net, making 49 saves while allowing 13 goals for a save percentage of .790.

Scouting the Pipers: Hamline comes into the contest most recently falling to Saint Mary’s 4-1 Saturday. Through 14 contests Logan Weller leads the Pipers with seven goals for 14 points, while Adam King and Ryan Pyle each have seven points. Malachy Zamacona has started all 14 matches in net, making a MIAC most 68 saves, while allowing 30 goals, for a save percentage of .694.
