SARTELL, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team Sunday improved its shot total by 10 strokes but finished just two off the lead for a second place result at the Saint John’s Fall Invitational, played at Blackberry Ridge. The Gusties shot 297-287-584 (+12) while St. Thomas won the event at 298-284-582.

The Gusties had four golfers finish in the top-eight, including three from the lineup and one individual. He finished with an even-par 75-68-143, which was three strokes behind medalist Ben Frazzini of St. Thomas. Pedersen’s round of 68 today is a career low and tied for the fourth lowest round in program history.

Max Ullan (Jr., Blaine) went one-over-par at 73-71-144 to tie for third place. Ben Hauge (Sr., Ramsey) tied for eighth with a four-over 73-74-147. Carter Czichotzki (Jr., Moorhead) played as an individual and tied for eighth as well at 75-72-147.

“The guys did an incredible job of staying steady, being committed to their shots, bringing energy to the course, and excepting the challenge of doing something special,” Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey said. “Our play demonstrates that we can compete with anyone because of a solid field this weekend. Having four players finish in the top-10 was a great accomplishment. Special congratulations to Jacob Pedersen finishing second. His putting was exceptional today. Next week we get another opportunity to play a very strong field.”

The Gusties compete in the Twin Cities Classic next Saturday through Monday in Ramsey, Elk River, and Bloomington, Minn.
