DECATUR, Ill. – After day one of competition at the Take Back the Night Challenge, the Gustavus men’s golf team currently sits in fourth place of 19 teams. The Gusties posted a score of 315 in round one which trails the leader Illinois Wesleyan by 15 strokes.

“Today the guys put up a really tough battle playing in very tough conditions and cold temperatures with winds up to 35 miles per hour,” said Assistant Coach Randy Stuckey. “Playing a full round in those conditions can be mentally and physically challenging but I was very pleased with the energy and attitude they brought to the course today. We’ve only had a couple days to get out and practice at home and our play around the greens was not as sharp as it could have been today. The guys were a bit frustrated with that part of their game and are looking forward to improving it tomorrow.”

Max Ullan (So., Blaine, Minn.) golfed well for the Black and Gold posting a 76 in round one which ties him for sixth overall while Jacob Pedersen (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) is tied for 10th with a 78.  Carter Czichotzki (So., Moorhead, Minn.)Ben Hauge (Jr., Ramsey, Minn), and Thomas Carlson (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) rounded out the top five for Gustavus with scores of 80, 81, and 84 respectively.

The Gusties will tee off again tomorrow morning in the final day of competition.
