CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Gustavus men’s track & field team competed at the Mustang Open at Mount Mercy University on Saturday as a full team for the first time this outdoor season. Andrew Stumbo, Taylor Rooney, Alex Wischnack, and Michael Hensch all led the Gusties with first place finishes in their respective events.

“We showed some really good performances throughout all the events,” Head Coach Dale Bahr said. “Mike [Hensch] really stepped up his game. All indoor he didn’t pop the big one that we’re used to, and he just bombed a huge hammer and PR’d in all three events. Rooney ran really well in the hurdles. It wasn’t very clean even though it was a lifetime PR. Alex ran a really smart race and Stumbo started the 5k running with the other two guys that finished behind him and he really created separation later in the race. It wasn’t the best of conditions but it gave us a chance to compete.”
