Men’s Tennis Drops a Pair in Southern California Posted on April 3rd, 2019 by

REDLANDS, Calif. – The No. 20 Gustavus tennis team Tuesday lost a heartbreaker 5-4 at No. 22 Redlands, falling to 11-6 overall. A split squad also lost 8-1 against Hope International.

“The guys at Hope international played a solid match,” Head Coach Tommy Valentini said. “They played great in the doubles and were extremely close to a lead heading into the singles where they made a strong push. Alex Senjem was outstanding to get us on the board there. Against Redlands it was as close as it can get. First, hats off to their number three player. He came up big and played extremely well at the end of the third to win the match against Yassine who has been simply brilliant for us all year.

“Overall, our guys competed beautifully. Against a tough team in tough conditions they handled adversity well all day and had a great look at in the end. I couldn’t be prouder of how we played. We were great at one and two doubles and Patrick and Chase were both fantastic in singles to give us a look at it down the stretch and it just didn’t fall our way. We made good progress as a group and we’ll continue to build on the positive things in our game.”
