Tanner Sonnek (Sr., North Mankato, Minn.) earned his second All-America honors on the final day, this time in the 200 breaststroke by placing third. His time of 1:58.88 broke the previous school record that he held by a tenth of a second. As a team, the Gusties men also took home 17th in the nation.

Men’s Tennis Tops Saint Mary’s, Saint John’s

The No. 15 Gustavus men’s tennis team returned to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday at the Swanson Tennis Center, defeating Saint Mary’s 8-1 before a 9-0 win over Saint John’s. The Gusties are now 11-4 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC.

The Gustavus baseball team Saturday completed a doubleheader sweep over Bethany Lutheran at Franklin Rogers Park. The Gusties took game one 8-1 followed by a 6-2 victory in the nightcap, improving to 7-3 overall.

Gustavus gymnasts Sam Ardy (Sr., Thousand, Oaks, Calif.), Amanda Malo (Sr., Greenwood, Minn.), and Brook Merila (Fy., St. Michael, Minn.) are set to compete at the NCGA Championship on Saturday. The national meet begins at 4 p.m. at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Johnson Earns Second MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) went a combined 5-1 in singles and doubles play at the highly-competitive Stag-Hen Invitational, which featured a field of eight nationally-ranked teams. For his performance, Johnson has been named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

Pitching Propels Softball to Two Wins on Final Day in Tucson

The Gustavus softball team concluded its Arizona trip on top as they used solid pitching on the day to take two victories. The Gusties beat MacMurray in game one 9-1 before beating Edgewood College 1-0 in game two. The Gustavus pitching staff allowed just four hits and four walks in the 14 innings of action.
