SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus gymnastics team Friday night hosted its home opener and scored a season-high 184.775 in a WIAC dual loss to UW-Stout. The 184.775 score is the sixth-highest team total in program history.

The Gusties scored 46.850 on floor, 46.700 on vault, 45.700 on bars, and 45.525 on beam.

“That was the most fun we’ve had out there and it showed in their performances and our score,” Head Coach Aryn DeGrood said. “To have the highest team score by almost a point was huge, and so fun to do in front of our fans. We keep building and growing each week. They are doing exactly what the coaches ask of them and it’s paying off big time.”

Samantha Ardy (Sr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.) won the bars with a 9.5 and took third in the all-around at 37.075. She also took third on the vault with a 9.450.

Amanda Malo (Sr., Greenwood, Minn.) won the all-around with a 37.575. Her best performance was on the floor as she took second with a 9.550. Katy Trunk (Sr., North Branch Minn.) posted a career-high on the beam, taking second place with a 9.450. Trunk also took fourth on the floor with another career-high of 9.475.

“Individually we saw lots a big improvements and moments happen,” DeGrood said. “Malo continues to be a leader on every event. Sam Ardy had a huge vault and bar routine. Katy Trunk was a huge contributor tonight on beam and floor, posting season highs on both. Brooke Merila (Fy., St. Michael, Minn.) had an outstanding night.

“We look forward to building on tonight momentum and making adjustments going into this next meet.”

The Gusties next host Hamline at 7 p.m. Friday.
