Stumbo and Ramon Receive All-Academic Accolades, Men’s and Women’s Team Receive Honors as Well

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2018 Cross Country All-Academic individuals Thursday and Gustavus student-athletes Andrew Stumbo (So., Boone, Iowa) and Iliana Ramon (Fy., Fairmont, Minn.) were recognized with the honor as individuals, and both the men’s and women’s team received the honor as well. 

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its 2018 Cross Country All-Academic individuals Thursday and Gustavus student-athletes Andrew Stumbo (So., Boone, Iowa) and Iliana Ramon (Fy., Fairmont, Minn.) were recognized with the honor as individuals, and both the men’s and women’s team received the honor as well.

There were 682 student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with women accounting for 56 percent of that total (382). In order to qualify for this honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.

Stumbo finished the NCAA Central Region meet in 8th place with a time of 25:11.1 and holds a 3.56 GPA, while Ramon took 29th place in 23:04.6 and has a 3.50 GPA.

For a team to be considered for this honor, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Overall, there were 393 teams honored by the USTFCCCA, of which 215 were women’s teams.

The Gustavus men came in with an impressive team GPA of 3.51 while the women one-upped them with a 3.52.
