SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s basketball team is set to take on Augsburg at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at Gus Young Court. The Gusties enter the contest 12-9 overall and 9-5 in the MIAC, while the Auggies are 18-3 overall and 13-1 in the league.

THE SERIES

Tonight’s game marks the 72nd meeting between Gustavus and Augsburg in women’s basketball with the Gusties leading the all-time series 60-11. The Gusties have won the last 19 meetings with Augsburg’s last victory coming on Dec. 1, 2007. The two teams last met Jan. 17 last year in Minneapolis with the Gusties winning 84-58.

SCOUTING THE GUSTIES

Gustavus is 5-1 in its last six games, most recently defeating Carleton 81-39 on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. Through 21 games the Gusties average 67.2 points and allow 56.9 per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the field – all marks that rank fourth in the MIAC. An area of growth is rebounding as the Gusties average a league-worst 33.1 boards per game, but they distribute the ball well with 14.9 assists per game. The Black and Gold turns the ball over the least in the league with 14.6 per game. Kendall Thompson is a team leader with 13.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, along with 71 assists and 61 steals. Justine Lee averages 13.0 points and leads the squad with 24 three-pointers made. Paige Richert averages double figures as well with 10.1 points along with 5.6 rebounds.

SCOUTING THE AUGGIES

Augsburg is riding a six-game winning streak, most recently beating Carleton 81-58 on Monday. Through 21 games the Auggies average 69.3 points and allow 56.8 per game – both ranking third in the MIAC. They are best in the MIAC at defending the three-pointer as opponents shoot just 26.2 percent from beyond the arc. Augsburg is also strong on the takeaway with 13.6 steals per game. Tamira McLemore leads the team with 15.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. She also has a team-high 52 steals and has made 50-of-129 three-pointers. Camryn Speese is next on the scoresheet with 9.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
