BOX SCORE

ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the fourth consecutive Saturday, the Gustavus women’s hockey team has skated to a tie, this time a 2-2 tie to St. Catherine. With the tie the Gusties move to 11-5-5 overall and 7-3-4 in the MIAC while the Wildcats move to 5-13-3 overall and 2-9-3 in the league.

The Gusties  came out strong in the contest able to gain a lead in the first period when Madigan Goldsworthy (Fy., Chaska, Minn.) scored for the second consecutive night with assists going to Kayla Vrieze (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) and Hanna Mutschelknaus (Jr., Brandon, S.D.).

Gustavus kept the scoring going in period number two when Stephanie Anderson (Fy., Blaine, Minn.) netted a goal at the 6:39 mark with an assist going to Kristina Press (Fy., Cottage Grove, Minn.). The Wildcats were able to answer the second period goal with one of their own 13:18 into the period to pull the game within one.

After the remainder of the second period went scoreless, the third period seemed like it was going to go without a goal until the Wildcats found the back of the net with 42 seconds remaining to tie the game at two. The two teams ended the game in a tie after neither was able to muster a goal in the extra five minutes.

After the Gusties outshot the Wildcats 16-5 in period number one, they were outshot in the final two periods 15-14.

Amanda DiNella (Jr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) started the game in net for the Gusties and made 18 saves while allowing two goals.

The Gusties are back in action on Friday when they host Concordia on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest.
