Men’s Hockey Loses 3-1 at St. Thomas

The Gustavus men’s hockey team lost 3-1 at St. Thomas on Saturday night, dropping to 5-11-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the MIAC.

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team lost 3-1 at St. Thomas on Saturday night, dropping to 5-11-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the MIAC.

The Gusties scored the game’s first goal at the 11:16 mark in the first period as Brenden Payne (Fy., Plainfield, Ill.) tallied his second goal of the season, assisted by Nick Klishko (So., San Diego, Calif.) and Dylan Gast (Fy., Dellwood, Minn.). The Tommies answered five minutes later and the score remained tied at the first intermission.

St. Thomas scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 8:11 mark of the second period. Forty-two seconds later, the Tommies added another goal and the scored remained 3-1 for the rest of the game.

The Gusties outshot the Tommies 35-29 but went 0-for-4 on the power play. Robbie Goor (So., Anoka, Minn.) took the loss after making 26 saves.

Gustavus takes on Augsburg next weekend in another home-home series, starting at 7 p.m. Friday in Minneapolis.
