RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team traveled to UW-River Falls on Wednesday night and lost by a score of 2-1. With the loss the Gusties move to 7-2-1 on the season.
After a scoreless first period the Falcons got the scoring started with a shorthanded goal 5:43 into the second period. The Gusties answered less than four minutes later when Allie Stanger (Sr., Paynesville scored, with assists going to Lilia Scheid (Fy., Stillwater, Minn.) and Laine Fischer (Sr., Northfield, Minn.).
54 seconds into the third period the Falcons scored what proved to be the game-winner as the Gusties put five more shots on net in the third period but the Falcon goaltender saved them all to hold onto the 2-1 victory.
After Gustavus outshot UW-River Falls 10-5 in the first period, they were outshot by the home team by a margin of 18-9 in the final two periods.
Amanda DiNella (Sr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) got the start in net and made 21 saves while allowing two goals in the loss.
The Gusties will take on the Falcons at home on Saturday with a noon start time at the Don Roberts Ice Rink.
