SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team was rewarded for putting pucks on net Saturday night in a convincing 6-2 victory over Hamline at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The win moves the Gusties to 3-4-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the MIAC.

For the sixth time in eight games this season Gustavus outshot its opponent, this time 36-23, but claimed a win for just the second time when posting more shots.

Hamline took the early lead with a goal midway through the first period and carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. After the break, the Gusties erupted for three goals in the second. Evan Erickson (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) posted his second goal of the season at the 3:55 mark and Dominic Picciano (So., Lake Elmo, Minn.) followed with his first goal of the season 21 seconds later. Tyler Ebner (Fy., La Crosse, Wis.) took advantage of a turnover at the blue line for a one-on-one shot on goal at the 12:24 mark, which he put in the back of the net for his first career goal, and the home team took a 3-1 lead into the locker room at the second intermission.

Nearly three minutes into the third, Van Sullivan (Sr., Brentwood, Tenn.) scored a power play goal for a three-goal lead. The Pipers responded at the 7:31 mark with their second goal, but the Gusties fended off any comeback attempt.

With the Piper goalie pulled, Toby Sengvongxay (Fy., Luverne, Minn.) cleared the zone with a pass off the glass, which skittered down the ice and into the net with two minutes left in the game. Exactly one minute later, Sengvongxay put home another goal to place a stamp on the win.

Chris Amsden (Sr., St. Peter, Minn.) made 21 saves in goal, improving his record to 2-2-1.

Gustavus has Thanksgiving weekend off and returns to the ice Nov. 30 at Bethel.
