HOUSTON, Tex. – The Gustavus women’s golf team traveled to Houston, Tex. for the Division III Preview and they currently sit in ninth place after day one. The Gusties trail the leader, Rhodes college by a total of 25 strokes.

Emily Kratz (Fy., Edina, Minn.) was the Gusties leader on the day tallying a 78 which put her in a tie for 15th overall and just four strokes back of the overall leader. Erin Ericson (Fy., Onalaska, Wis.) and Morgan Bleyhl (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) also had solid rounds with Ericson posting an 82 and Bleyhl an 84. Ellie Brandt (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.) and Sydney Regalado (Fy., Rosemount, Minn.) rounded out the Gustie top five with scores of 86 and 88 respectively.

On the day, coach Randy Stuckey said, “The women came out tentative at the beginning of the round which led to some errant tee shots and approach shots. When we missed these shots we put ourselves in some tough Bermuda grass that made it difficult for our women to play out of. On the backside we started to get more comfortable and I saw our level of play rise which was good to see. With 18 more holes to play tomorrow we have to pick up where we left off today.”

The Gusties will conclude the Division III preview tomorrow afternoon.
