Sam Archer Receives ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Honors Posted on May 22nd, 2018 by

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2018 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region Teams were released Tuesday and Gustavus junior Sam Archer (Zimmerman, Minn.) has been named to the All-Midwest Region Third Team. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division III All-America Committee.

Archer, who was previously named MIAC All-Conference, is one of six pitchers on the All-Midwest Region Third Team. Archer led the Gustie pitching staff with team-bests in ERA (1.44), record (5-1), complete games (2), innings pitched (43.2), and strikeouts (32). His marquee game of the season was game two at St. Thomas on May 7 where he delivered a complete-game, one-run, six-hit performance, which sent the Gusties to the MIAC playoffs for the first time since 2008. His 1.44 ERA is the fourth best single season ERA in program history.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Over 9,600 members represent all 50 states and 25 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 75th annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 3-6, 2019 in Dallas, Texas.
