Katie Aney Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team Posted on May 22nd, 2018 by

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The 2018 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Google Cloud Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Teams are released and Gustavus senior Katie Aney (Rochester, Minn.) is named to the 10-member District 6 Team, which features student-athletes from institutions in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The Google Cloud Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Aney, who was an Academic All-American last year, boasts a 3.96 GPA majoring in biochemistry and mathematics and was a key member of the 2018 MIAC regular season and playoff champion Gustavus women’s tennis team. At the end of the conference season, Aney earned her second consecutive spot on both the All-MIAC singles and doubles team, going unbeaten in singles at 10-0 and was 8-2 in doubles. Primarily playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions, Aney closed out the regular season with 14 consecutive singles victories and was named Gustavus Athlete of the Month in April. She was also selected as the MIAC Athlete of the Week April 10 while going 3-0 at the Midwest Invite April 6-7, highlighted by earning the team’s sole point against the University of Chicago, winning 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

The Rochester native finished her senior season 19-7 in singles and 19-11 in doubles. Over the course of her four-year Gustavus career, Aney went 79-23 in singles play with an impressive 33-1 mark against conference opponents. In doubles play she posted a career mark of 80-28 and was 31-4 in the MIAC. Aney recently received the MIAC Elite 22 Award, which recognizes the highest GPA among student-athletes participating in the conference championship.

This year’s CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Team includes three other members from MIAC institutions – Allison Borgstrom of St. Thomas (swimming), Taylor Martinek of Hamline (swimming), and Ziyi Wang of Carleton (golf).

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later next month.
