Men’s Golf Seniors Earn Multiple Postseason Awards

ST. PETER, Minn. – Gustavus men’s golf seniors Alec Aunan (Rock Island, Ill.) and Chris Captain (Rochester, Minn.) recently earned accolades from both the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Golf Coaches Association of America. Aunan and Captain were both named MIAC All-Conference as well as Division III Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, while Aunan was listed as a member of the Division III PING All-Central Region Team.

Aunan earns a spot on the All-Conference Team for the second consecutive season. He’s also an All-America Scholar for the second consecutive year and makes his first appearance on the All-Region Team. Aunan played in 19 rounds this season with a 74.2-stroke average, which ranks fourth in the league among competitors with at least two rounds played. The Rock Island, Ill. native placed in the top-10 five times, including three top-five performances and one medalist honor as he took home the individual title at the MIAC Championships, carding a 72-74-73-219 (+3).

Captain ends his decorated career as a four-time All-Conference performer, becoming the first Gustavus men’s golfer to achieve that feat since Neil Johnson ’04. He’s also a two-time All-America Scholar. Captain played in 19 rounds this season with a 75.9-stroke average, which ranks 16th in the league. The Rochester native finished in the top-10 four times this season with his best performance at the MIAC Championships where he took fourth place, posting a 73-75-73-221 (+5). Captain was also named to the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
