DECATUR, Ill. – After day one at the Take Back the Night Challenge, hosted by Millikin University, the Gustavus men’s golf team is tied for sixth place out of 17 teams. The Gusties carded a first round total of 306, which is 22 strokes behind the leader Illinois Wesleyan.
Ben Hauge (So., Ramsey, Minn.) and Chris Captain (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) led the Gusties with rounds of 74 and 75, respectively. Hauge is tied for 14, while Captain is tied for 18th. The leaders shot 70. Alec Aunan (Sr., Rock Island, Ill.) posted a 78 and is tied for 36th, Carter Czichotzki (Fy., Moorhead, Minn.) tallied a 79 and is tied for 44th, and Max Ullan (Fy., Blaine, Minn.) shot an 83 and is tied for 66th.
“We struggled out of the gates today and never got our putters going,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “We hit the ball pretty well. Ben and Chris hung on for decent rounds today. It will be a much different course tomorrow and I think it will set up for a good round.”
The two round event concludes tomorrow.
