ST. PETER, Minn. – Michael Hensch (Jr., North Branch, Minn.) and Taylor Rooney (Fy., Andover, Minn.) are set to represent the Gustavus men’s track & field team at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama.
Hensch is seeded fourth in the shot put with his career-best indoor throw of 56 feet, the top finish at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in St. Paul, Minn. Feb. 23-24.
The shot put finals are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday from the Birmingham CrossPlex on the campus of Birmingham Southern College.
Rooney will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, seeded ninth at 8.14. His season-best time came at the Maverick Invite Feb. 16 at Minnesota State, Mankato. The 60-meter hurdle preliminary round gets underway at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by the finals at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Both were recent USTFCCCA All-Region honorees for the 2018 NCAA Division III indoor track & field season.
