GAME NOTES

ST. PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s basketball team is set to continue Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, hosting St. Olaf College on Saturday. The Gusties (3-2, 1-0 MIAC) will tip off against the Oles (3-0, 1-0 MIAC) at 1 p.m.

The Series

Saturday’s game marks the 154th meeting between Gustavus and St. Olaf on the hardwood, with the Gusties holding a 95-58 advantage in the all-time series. The Oles are currently riding a 10- game win streak against Gustavus and swept the Gusties with 69-65 and 72-56 victories last season.

Last Time Out

Gustavus opened conference play at Gus Young Court on Wednesday, defeating Saint Mary’s University 85-65. The Gusties shot 30-for-62 from the field and out-rebounded the Cardinals by a mark of 48-25 in their highest offensive output of the season in the 20-point victory. Four out of five Black and Gold starters scored in double figures, with Jason Faul (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.) leading the way with a career-high 21 points, shooting 8-12 from the field.

About the Oles

St. Olaf is unbeaten early on in its 2017-18 campaign, opening the season with non-conference wins over the Univeristy of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire prior to opening its MIAC schedule with a 59-44 win over Macalester College on Wednesday. The Oles have particularly been strong defensively, holding their opponents to an average of 50.0 points per game, a 31.8 field goal percentage, and a 24.1 three-point field goal percentage, which all rank first in the conference. Sophomore guard Nate Albers leads the St. Olaf offense with an average of 15.0 points per game, shooting 10-for-22 from the field and 7-16 from beyond the arc. Junior forward Austin Korba has brought in 24 rebounds, averaging 8.0 per game (5th/MIAC).
