ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team earned a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series sweep with a 4-1 victory over Hamline University Saturday evening at Oscar Johnson Arena, guided by a 3-0 start.

The Gusties, now 4-3-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play, carried their momentum from Friday night’s victory into Saturday, claiming a three-goal lead through two periods and holding on for the win and the series sweep over the Pipers.

Jake Bushey (Sr., Duluth, Minn.) tallied his first of the season, on the power play, with help from Caleb Anderson (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Mason Etter (Fy., Grafton, Wis.) to give the Gusties a 1-0 lead early in the first period. Anderson now has registered a point in four-straight games and continues to lead the team in scoring.

With under a minute remaining in the first frame, Reid Brown (So., Superior, Colo.) put home his first goal of the season, which stood as the eventual game-winner. JT Walters (Sr., Escondido, Calif.) and Tim Donohue (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.) were credited with assists.

6:16 into the second period, Gustavus secured a three-goal cushion as Jake McCann (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.) fed JP Eykyn (Fy., Waseca, Minn.) for his first collegiate goal.

The Pipers broke through the Gustie defense with an extra attacker goal within the last minute of the game, prior to a Reid Brown empty net goal, closing out the game with his first career two goal-performance.

The Black and Gold shut out the Pipers in all six power play opportunities, while going 1-for-6. Hamline outshot the Gusties 32-28, with Chris Amsden (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.) recording 31 saves for his second win of the season.

Gustavus will take next weekend off prior to a series with Bethel University Dec. 1-2.
