ETTRICK, Wis. – The Gustavus men’s and women’s cross country teams took part in the Jim Drews and Tori Neubauer Invitational, hosted by UW-La Crosse on Saturday. The women took sixth out of 21 teams, while the men finished 15th. Iowa Central won both the men’s and women’s competition.

Sadie Klug (Sr., Waseca, Minn.) led the way for women, taking ninth place out of 298 runners with a time of 22:31, which is tied for the 25th best 6k time in program history. The next four Gustie women finished in a pack with Olivia Rosenow (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) at 36th (23:23), Gabriela Passmore (So., Mapleton, Minn.) at 37th (23:26), Tierney Winter (So., Waterville, Minn.) at 40th (23:32), and Sarah Anderson (So., Roseville, Minn.) at 43rd (23:40).

“Fifteen of the 16 ladies that ran today posted season or lifetime bests, which is just tremendous,” Head Coach Brenden Huber said. “Sadie went up with some of the best in the region today and beat a lot of people. It’s the best I’ve ever seen her race in cross country. One of our benchmarks of legitimacy is sub-24 and we had eight women break the 24-minute barrier today and three more that were within 10 seconds. All the ladies are running well right now and continuing to improve.”

Once again, Andrew Stumbo (Fy., Boone, Iowa) led the Gustie men with a 30th place finish at a season-best time of 26:07. Jeremy Gilbertson (Fy., Maple Grove, Minn.) took 63rd in 26:42, Nick Kerbeshian (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.) placed 79th in 26:53, Brennan Gustafson (Fy., Kasson, Minn.) took 90th in 27:12, and Ryley Sandberg (Sr., Alleman, Iowa) crossed the line 93rd in 27:14.

“As talented and fit as we are right now, we are just taking some lumps with inexperience,” Huber said. “It was better than two weeks ago and we had a lot of personal bests across the board.”

Gustavus next competes in two weeks at the MIAC Championships.
